community involvement

"We are both lucky... Riverbrook provides supervision & protected freedom, there is a permanence of personnel and location lacking in many group settings."

Riverbrook women enjoy full participation in local church activities of their choice. Many residents are also involved in the community through volunteer and paid positions. These positions are made available through organizations including the Red Lion Inn, the Marian Fathers, the Kripalu Yoga Center, Lee Special Ed Program and Kimball Farms.

Additionally, Riverbrook residents enjoy the exciting experience of working with cultural arts professionals in the community. These opportunities include group singing, drama, poetry, puppetry, and movement therapy. Riverbrook residents also participate in Community Access to the Arts. This program builds bridges between the arts, human service providers, and the public at large. Through the programs offered by Community Access to the Arts, Riverbrook women have learned to do weaving, painting, clay sculpting juggling and drumming. Some residents have also expanded their performance skills through drama with members of Shakespeare & Co. These experiences encourage the development of imagination, fine and gross motor skills, interpersonal relationships, and cooperation.
